about

I had this old memory banging around in my head since the moment happened. I was with my girlfriend Aileen on Clark AB in the Philippines up on FEN hill. I used to go up there all the time and watch the lightning storms go by. It was amazing and up and away from everything else, kinda like Space Dust Mountain (see Ramble On - 1991) a place where I could go meditate and find some peace. So back to the story, one night I brought Aileen up here and what a beautiful night it was. We watched the sunset and then the stars came out and then the fireflies flew slowly all around us. It was magical, such a beautiful moment. I layed down with my back on the warm ground/cool grass and Aileen was standing and walking around me, looking down at me at times, and the sky was so bright with all the stars behind her head(from my viewpoint on the ground). She was so beautiful and the moment was perfectly magical.

The night was wonderful but , as relationships often do, things did not last between Aileen and myself. I left the PI and figured I would never get to see Aileen and her cousins again. Then one day years later at Borders Book Store in Pleasanton, a filipino couple walked by me with the man in cut-off BDU pants. It took me a second to place the two, but finally I said, "Gee, RJ is that you?" They were Aileens cousins and Aileen was living with them in Tracy (about 30 minutes away). Aileen and I did get to see eachother and catch up on what had happened to each other. We have not kept in touch since reconnecting then but I find it such a strange coincidence that she now works at one of the hotels across the freeway from me at the Airport. Isn't life odd sometimes?

about

Brett Allen Gregory Livermore, California

I've always been compelled to write.

Early on it was journaling and poetry, but then that merged with my guitar addiction to become songwriting.

The process was always a bit manic, pressured, as if a large gorilla had stepped into my room, grabbed me by the lapels and said, "I will not let you sleep until you write this idea down." And so for years the gorilla and I danced madly thru the night.
