about

Borderline indeed. What a year 1997 was. So much change and goings-on. Tina got pregnant with Luke, Brian and I were evolving from a duo (Broken String) into a full band (CrossRoads) and I was about to quit my job which I did in May. By the end of 1997, Brian and I had written 5 songs and the band had broken up.

During this period I had written these first 11 songs and I was trying to elevate my songwriting craft to the level of Brian's ability. I felt his songs were so much more focused lyrically and musically and I wanted to understand what he knew because it seemed very Beatle-like.

After the first 11 songs of Borderline I have added the originals and practices that were recorded as Broken String and CrossRoads from 1997 with Brian, Steve, and Joe. These guys were my Beatles band and I miss them and those days tremendously.

The Wind was the name I used for my first songwriting attempts. I was too shy to use my own name and it was much easier to hide behind the shield of a band name. I began writing songs around 1985 or 1986 (age 16-17) and arranged the songs into albums as I completed enough songs. I did this up until about 1996 and made a total of 7 albums and almost 90 songs.

The process was always a bit manic, pressured, as if a large gorilla had stepped into my room, grabbed me by the lapels and said, "I will not let you sleep until you write this idea down." And so for years the gorilla and I danced madly thru the night.
