about

I walked outside from my studio one night and I could smell Navy Perfume and it made me think of Mistie, Steve and Angie, my three good friends from Texas

lyrics

Feels like Texas in California
Feels like Texas out here tonight
Something about the fallin’ stars
In this misty April sky
Got me wishing that things are alright
I hope Texas is doing fine

Somehow I guess I knew I couldn’t stay
Home just ain’t quite home when it’s a thousand miles away
And it’s a long ride now, either way
From your doorstep to mine, from memories back till today

If you think about me does it bring a smile?
Is there a little song in your memory that takes you right back there with me?
It’s been a long time now, gone with the wind
But there’s a hint of Navy Ocean Blue, just a moments touch again, and it – CHORUS

There’s a Canadian border on the edge of Texas
And we used to make that run all the way from Abilene
With a bottle of Everclear through a little town called Paducah
And Amarillo’s somewhere in between

There’s nothing you can do when you say goodbye
That makes it any easier on the ones you leave behind
And the more you love, the more you ache
And every trip around the sun takes you furthur away

But it feels like Texas in California
Yeah it feels like Texas out here tonight
For one second I would swear your touch was in the air
I was wishing it would last all night
I hope Texas is doing fine
I hope Texas is doing fine

This song was written about Steve, Angie and Mistie; three of my good friends in Texas. On the night I recorded the song my Dad called me to tell me his Mom had passed away (the night before) after she spent a week in a coma due to a stroke. Grandma Gregory was 90 years old, born in 1913 in Texas. She is not in the lyrics but this song took on a whole new meaning as I recorded it that night after Dad told me the news. She got to see her Great-Grand sons, Luke & Jake, for the first time a few weeks prior to her stroke. It was her 90th birthday and she smiled the whole day as she watched them play. Good bye Grandma, and thank you for all the love you gave me.

about

Brett Allen Gregory Livermore, California

I've always been compelled to write.

Early on it was journaling and poetry, but then that merged with my guitar addiction to become songwriting.

The process was always a bit manic, pressured, as if a large gorilla had stepped into my room, grabbed me by the lapels and said, "I will not let you sleep until you write this idea down." And so for years the gorilla and I danced madly thru the night.
