about

Julia Morgan Gregory was the name we were going to give our daughter. Sadly, she was one of 3 miscarriages before Luke was born. The song Julia was written for her and I named the album in memory of her as well.

Although I list this album as 1995, and a lot of it was, it also became the album of the forgotten, the lost, and the unfinished tunes that needed a home.

As such, some of these songs were recorded anywhere from 1994-1999. All the other albums were put together as they were written, but this one was put together long after 1995 with songs I re-discovered after scouring through old tapes and recordings.

Two other things were happening in 1995. Firstly, and the main thing, is that I was starting to perform at a local coffee house in Livermore called Virtues of Coffee.

The second thing was I became involved in an online group called rec.music.makers.songwriting which lead me to wanting to submit my songs to the group and to publishing houses. Many of the songs here were some of my first attempts at getting published. None of them took but I learned an awful lot in the process.

The previous 4 albums worth of songs had taught me a lot about songwriting and one thing I really had begun to notice was that my lyrics were really lacking. Lacking in an emotional connection to myself and the listener, and also lacking in painting a picture or telling a story. After the last album, I had vowed to work on this with my future songwriting efforts.

The Wind was the name I used for my first songwriting attempts. I was too shy to use my own name and it was much easier to hide behind the shield of a band name.

about

Brett Allen Gregory Livermore, California

I've always been compelled to write.

Early on it was journaling and poetry, but then that merged with my guitar addiction to become songwriting.

The process was always a bit manic, pressured, as if a large gorilla had stepped into my room, grabbed me by the lapels and said, "I will not let you sleep until you write this idea down." And so for years the gorilla and I danced madly thru the night.
