about

My first group of songs ever. Sunset Song was the very first song I put lyrics to, and Riverflow was my first instrumental. Recorded in 1991 at my apartment in Abilene, Texas. I used to record by my open window so you may hear birds chirping and cars going by.

The Wind was the name I used for my first songwriting attempts. I was too shy to use my own name and it was much easier to hide behind the shield of a band name. I began writing songs around 1985 or 1986 (age 16-17) and arranged the songs into albums as I completed enough songs. I did this up until about 1996 and made a total of 7 albums and almost 90 songs.

This album was called 'again' because the first version was done on tape cassette, but not on a multi-track recorder. By 1991 I was stationed at Dyess AFB, Abilene, TX and I had bought a four-track fostex/tascam thingy and could now do multiple parts with ease. I had enough material for this album plus the next one, Ramble on. My apartment was basically a recording studio with a bed, it was so much fun, guitars and friends all around.

My voice on these first two albums is so whisper-y. I took guitar lessons but never voice lessons. Even a few months of voice lessons would have been a great idea and would've helped so much back then.

Ah well, at least its a start. Welcome to my first album :)

Brett Allen Gregory Livermore, California

I've always been compelled to write.

Early on it was journaling and poetry, but then that merged with my guitar addiction to become songwriting.

The process was always a bit manic, pressured, as if a large gorilla had stepped into my room, grabbed me by the lapels and said, "I will not let you sleep until you write this idea down." And so for years the gorilla and I danced madly thru the night.
