Something here is telling me, you’re gonna say goodbye It’s nothing you’ve done differently, and maybe that’s just why You still hold my hands and look at me the way you’ve always done Just going thru the motions has left a heart without your love. So many years have sailed on by, and it’s just been you and me. One secret can hide a sea of lies, so tell me what can I believe? That day upon your hand I placed a ring, is the day that I think of, To raise the tides for one more night, in a heart without your love. After all these years you're still the one So I’ve tried everything that my heart can think of but alone with you still every night is this heart without your love. I’ve gone back thru all the pages, just to read between the lines I’ve got my sleeve full of aces, just need some luck and a little time Cause we both vowed to keep our love together, come what ever will So in your arms here every night is a heart that loves you still. After all these years you're still the one And I’ve tried everything that my heart can think of but alone with you still every night is this heart without your love. without your love. without your love.

Lowdown and Lonesome, I walk these streets alone Lowdown and Lonesome, just a stranger in this town Everyone here looks at me and they wonder who I am I’m just a lowdown, lonesome kinda man. There’s a lady down in Lafayette, she’s lonely just for me. Cause her love ain’t over yet but I just had to leave. That ole ball and chain don’t look too good on me I’d rather be Lowdown lonesome and free. Chorus Instrumental break I must admit that sometimes I get down I’ll settle in a bit with some girl in some town Till I hear that highway song calling out my name I tip my hat say thank you darling just the same Chorus Instrumental Break I got some women in Wyoming, some girls in Gatlingburg There’s arms waiting to hold me in towns you never heard You know a city boy would probably lose his mind this kinda livin' suits this country boy just fine. Coda: Lowdown and Lonesome, I walk these streets alone Lowdown and Lonesome, just a stranger in this town Everyone here looks at me and they wonder who I am I’m just a lowdown, lonesome lowdown lonesome lowdown lonesome kinda man…

500 Miles 03:21
I can feel this storm a coming, like a slow moving train A thunder cloud in the distance, spilling over with rain I best get these wheels back on the tracks and move my self along I got 500 miles to get back home I got 500 miles to get back home A pale full moon followed me the night I left It’s that moon shining in my veins it don’t let me get no rest this guitar on my back I walked this way alone now just 500 miles till I get home Some say it’s the road that leads you astray some say its just the night or the stars spinning around your head that make you feel alright well don’t worry about where your going all these roads were made to roam and your heart can lead you home your heart can lead you home With the sun rising my wings are melting and I fall to the ground the son watching over me I close my eyes and lay my head down one night closer to the days that I wont spend alone not like 500 miles away from home not like 500 miles away form home away from home take you home So don’t build those walls around your heart and your heart will lead you home will take you home lead me home

Mystery 04:58
She never sits down with her back to my heart She’s played the fool before so now she plays it smart She never lets her guard down, always on the run She plays me like a game that she’s already won. She got those longing looks she doesn’t need to say a word. She’s got that delicate touch feels just like a whisper. She says just close your eyes I’ve got so much love in side but girl your love’s no good when all you do is hide She’s a mystery to me. She never says just what she really means She keeps one bullet in that gun just for me She’s a mystery to me. Interlude She takes my breath away she leaves me out in the cold She takes me by the hand she thinks that I don’t know She doesn’t sleep at night she keeps her eyes wide open in the dark She’s got her arms round me but she’s got chains round her heart She’s a mystery to me. She never says just what she really needs She keeps one bullet in that gun just for me She’s a mystery to me. She’s a mystery to me. She gives no clues till she plays her final scene Every line a ruse every deception a victory She’s my mystery. She’s my mystery.

Well I’ve been living in between these city lines drive that freeway twice a day, stare at the highway signs There’s a whisper in the back of my mind, oh boy, don’t you think it’s time? There’s nothing I wouldn’t do for you, my Miss Angelee You’re my wife my love my life, my reason to believe but it’s all houses and black top as far as I can see Angelee, don’t you think its time we leave? I been dreaming bout the country you know those dreams that get to you Angelee it may sound funny but I think you feel it too So lets head out to the heartland and do some dreamin in the country do some dreamin in the country Who knows what we’ll find the other end of this dotted line and chasin dreams can leave you astray, sometimes you gotta take that chance put your wheels in gear So take me by the hand Angelee, lead me anywhere because I been dreaming bout the country you know those dreams that get to you Angelee it may sound funny but I think you feel it too So lets head out to the heartland and do some dreamin in the country do our dreamin in the country I’m going where the grass is greener, Well I’m sure the air smells sweeter Lets do some dreaming in the country Well I been dreaming bout the country you know those dreams that get to you Angelee it may sound funny but I think you feel it too So lets head out to the heartland and do some dreamin in the country do some dreamin in the country Do our dreamin in the country

Everyday, I get a little more ahead Everyday, I get a little something right Everyday, I get a little closer to the end Everyday one step closer to the days I’ll spend with you. Everyday, everyday, I get a little bit behind Everyday, everyday, I keep runnin’ out of time Everyday I keep runnin’, just to catch up to where I was Everyday your love saves me with the grace of the Lord I Believe, we’ve all been on that midnight train I Believe, in a bit of darkness thru our veins I Believe, there’s a reason for all the rain I believe that’s when I find you holding me once again. I Believe, I Believe that your love remains true I Believe, I Believe in this light that shines from you I Believe you stand by me tho all the things I put you thru I Believe your love saves me, touching grace thru you. Everyday everyday Lord I Believe in You I believe that your love will see me thru Theres a prayer in my heart that I keep just for you “Everyday I believe Lord, I Believe in You” Solo In you is a light that shines like home In you I find my faith as I grow old In you I find hope for all of us In you I have found love and in you I place my trust In you in you I’ve learned faith is a two way street In you I believe, and you believe in me and when you get a little lonesome Lord I know just what you might need I’ll sing you a song of Love and Grace just like you sang to me I’ll sing you a song of Love and Grace, remind you that I believe. Everyday everyday Lord I Believe in You I believe that our love will see us thru Theres a song in my heart that I sing just for you “Everyday I believe Lord, I believe in You Everyday I believe, I believe, believe in you”

Wanderlust 03:24
I been wondering Lookin out my window again There’s nothing but moonshine Pourin down tonight I’m tryin to get some sleep but I just can’t close my eyes So I go out wandering Let the moonlight soak right through my skin A million stars above and so much space in between So I set my sails to the wind And it’s a traveling junkies dream Wanderlust is my blood When the moon is shinning down above Not one destination Where I need to go All I need right now is any thousand mile road This nighttime wandering takes me away from you But I’ll be back before the sun comes shinning through I been wondering Lookin' out my window again There’s nothing but moonshine Pourin down tonight I’m tryin to get some sleep but I just can’t close my eyes

Here and gone, it’s here and gone Hang on for the ride, don’t you look back for too long Driftin’ thru the past, you know time keeps walkin’ on, til close enough to touch is here and gone. Sometimes I think I’ll find, that you’re still waiting, or that the years have gone by and nothing’s changed. Put the top down in the sun and we’ll go riding. Never let this day fade away. There’s a thousand yesterdays that I go back to. The old times are so sweet in memory. History ain’t nothin’ but just a shadow, of everything that’s standing here today. It’s here and gone, it’s here and gone You hang on for the ride, don’t you look back for too long Driftin’ thru the past, you know time keeps walkin’ on, til close enough to touch is here and gone. Intro Melody Bridge: Every now and then, I go driftin’ back but you smile at me and say, ”Honey, where are you at?” Here and gone, it’s here and gone Right here and now, ain’t gonna wait around too long. While it’s close enough to touch, you better hold it tight in your arms, ‘cause sometimes the sun comes up, and what was close enough to touch, sometimes the sun comes up…

Say it ain’t so You say that our love’s run out of time Say it ain’t so But you turn to go And you won’t be mine. There’s some things that are better left unsaid But it’s dangerous silent voices in your head Talk to me come on tell me what went wrong But don’t look at me that way like you don’t know what’s going on It’s a lonely old night a long ride home Got my hands upon the wheel turn the radio on There’s a red headed stranger and blue eyes crying in the rain It don’t matter what I do, there ain’t nothing feels the same Say it ain’t so You say that our love’s run out of time Say it ain’t so But you turn to go And you won’t be mine. Lead Solo Nothing like the sunrise when you been up all night Pale washed out colors in a world a little too bright Close the blinds and shut my eyes and pour one last shot of sleep Now I won’t be too surprised with every promise that you don’t keep Where did it go? Guess I just slipped right off your mind How could I Know Till you turn to go And left me behind Say it ain’t so but you turn to go and you won’t be mine you wont be mine you wont be mine false ending then pick back up with half time ELVIS feel You turn to go and you won’t be mine

Lately I have noticed The way that you hang around Hidin’ out beneath the back of my brain I’d kinda hoped you’d left town Well I can tell right now that you ain’t never gonna leave and sure as hell you ain’t gonna leave me be… Guess it wasn’t so long ago longer than you might like I can still feel your touch on my skin the traces in my mind Well I can hear every lie that you whispered so sweet and every laugh when I said I could leave… You hold hands with the devil, He wants you to stay. Can leave any time, is just words that you say. One thing you’ll notice he’s there everyday You hold hands with the devil, you don’t just walk away. There ain’t nothing that I wouldn’t do to cut you out of my veins So why do I start to thinking about you when things go right for a change And in the middle of the night when I whisper your name there ain’t no one here but my self left to blame… You hold hands with the devil, He wants you to stay. Can leave any time, is just words that you say. One thing you’ll notice he’s there everyday You hold hands with the devil, you don’t just walk away. You hold hands with the devil, you don’t just walk away, you don’t just walk away.

Verse 1: I get lost on a night like this Moon and the stars just spin me round Stare at the sunset Oh such sweet regret As sunset gold fades into midnight blue And I go driftin thru Chorus: On those cool California nights And those blue western skies Asleep in the sun, let the days pass by And go dreaming on a cool California Night Verse 2: Like summer nights drivin my old car Me and my best friend with the top rolled down Or a million miles away Wishin I hadnt strayed But oh how sweet to finally be coming home Back where I belong Chorus repeats Bridge: And the days are filled With so many reasons why Feel the sun shining on my skin I just close my eyes Instrumental chorus Verse 3: Now theres some things I wish I hadnt done And some friends I wish Id never left behind But I try not to think about Cuz Im better off without Getting lost inside an old memory But they still find me Chorus repeats Coda: Oh I get lost on a night like this

about

Tales of The Bed Yam -2016 is a chronological compilation of the best of my Acoustic Americana (country/folk singer-songwriter) songwriting efforts. It is un-mastered and contains two songs that I ended up deleting from the final 2018 version (500 Miles and Mystery - I also edited a couple things for the 2018 version along with having it mastered by my friend, Scott)

I suspect this album will be my last as I haven't written a new song since 2008. So I wanted to have one last album that I could be proud of, and could use as a presentation of my best work, both in songwriting and performance. It contains my 6 latest, and previously unreleased songs (the last 6 on the CD) plus 10 recent re-recordings of some of my best original songs.

I wrote, played and recorded everything here to the best of my ability. As for the album title, 'Bed Yam' (a close relative of the couch potato) it was a nick-name given to me by my friends when I was stationed in the Philippines with the USAF because of how much I could sleep (12 - 16 hours!) :)

I am The Bed Yam, and I hope you enjoy my tales.

about

Brett Allen Gregory Livermore, California

I've always been compelled to write.

Early on it was journaling and poetry, but then that merged with my guitar addiction to become songwriting.

The process was always a bit manic, pressured, as if a large gorilla had stepped into my room, grabbed me by the lapels and said, "I will not let you sleep until you write this idea down." And so for years the gorilla and I danced madly thru the night.
